Who is Petey?

Petey was more than a dog- he was family, a steady presence, and a reminder of what unconditional love looks like in real life.

Born on a farm, Petey’s story began with resilience. As a puppy, his tail was broken after being stepped on by a pig and never healed quite right. When he first came home, he wasn’t exactly what was expected- or even wanted. But Petey had a way of showing that the things that don’t arrive perfectly often become the most meaningful parts of our lives.

Petey lived life on his own terms. He wasn’t a dog who cuddled on demand. If he chose to sit with you, it was because he wanted to- not because you asked. There was often a playful love-hate dynamic, especially during forced cuddle attempts, and his expressions said it all.
But when Petey decided it was time to be close, there was no better companion.

Even at nine years old, Petey still had the sweetness of a puppy. He loved people, carried endless curiosity, and- true to his beagle roots- followed his nose wherever it led him. One quiet moment could turn into a joyful sprint across the room, tongue flopping, ready for fun.

Petey was fiercely loyal and protective, especially of his sister, Penny. Despite being smaller, he took his role seriously, always watching, always guarding, always showing up. He loved deeply, even if he didn’t always show it in conventional ways.
